Sam e le donne: incontro con Liz Barry
Festeggiamo il 119mo compleanno di Samuel Beckett con una diretta streaming realizzata in collaborazione con il San Patrizio Livorno Festival. Ospite Liz Barry, presidente della Samuel Beckett Society. Con lei parleremo del tema della donna nell'opera di Beckett.
Nonostante il passare degli anni, l’opera di Samuel Beckett non perde la sua capacità di parlare al nostro tempo. Dai suoi testi emergono in continuazione significati che rimandano inaspettatamente a temi di attualità. Alcune recenti conferenze ne hanno dato risalto. Tra le altre: Samuel Beckett and technology (Praga, 2018), Samuel Beckett and nature (Batesville, Arkansas, 2022) o quella che la Samuel Beckett Society sta organizzando per giugno all’Università di Edimburgo a tema Samuel Beckett and relationships.
Proprio Liz Barry – docente di Inglese presso l’Università di Warwick e presidente della Samuel Beckett Society – sarà ospite della “più o meno consueta”[*] diretta streaming dedicata al compleanno di Samuel Beckett.
Federico Platania (samuelbeckett.it) e Max O’Rover (San Patrizio Livorno Festival) converseranno con Liz Barry nel tentativo di individuare un collegamento tra l’opera di Beckett e un tema quanto mai attuale: la condizione femminile nella società contemporanea. Siamo certi che non mancheranno cose da dire.

Time passes, but Samuel Beckett’s work has not lost its ability to speak to our present. Meanings constantly emerge from his texts that unexpectedly refer to topical issues. Some recent conferences have highlighted this. Among others: Samuel Beckett and technology (Prague, 2018), Samuel Beckett and nature (Batesville, Arkansas, 2022) or the one that the Samuel Beckett Society is organising in June at the University of Edinburgh on the theme Samuel Beckett and relationships.
Liz Barry herself – professor of English at the University of Warwick and president of the Samuel Beckett Society – will be the guest of the ‘more or less usual’[*] live streaming dedicated to Samuel Beckett’s birthday.
Federico Platania (samuelbeckett.it) and Max O’Rover (San Patrizio Livorno Festival) will converse with Liz Barry in an attempt to find a connection between Beckett’s work and a very topical theme: the condition of women in contemporary society. We are certain that there will be no shortage of things to say.
